My wife decided to make the fish we have had in our freezer for a few weeks last night. The fish (which was a cheap brand that I found on sale) was actually pretty disgusting (and the lima beans she made to go with it weren’t very good either). However, we did end up with one thing at dinner that exceeded my expectations; the Reggano Garlic and Olive Oil Pasta Entrée she decided to make.
This was something my oldest daughter actually picked out to go with dinner (despite the fact she ended up having something completely different because she is allergic to fish). My wife and I picked it up a couple weeks ago and, partly because I wasn’t sure it was going to be any good, it has been in our pantry since. When we were making it, I figured it would be an OK compliment to dinner. I did not expect it to be the one thing I would have seconds of.
First of all, this pasta is very easy to make. There aren’t a lot of complicated instructions (like with many other brands of pasta) and we were able to make it in the microwave in a matter of minutes. I appreciated this because, after working all day, I really don’t feel like figuring out something that is overly complex.
Another thing I noticed about this brand that I liked was the pasta came out exactly like it looked on the box. In other words, unlike many other brands, it didn’t have too much sauce and didn’t come out watery. The pasta was also cooked perfectly. It was soft but still had some firmness to it rather than being soggy.
Of course, I did still have some doubts about the taste; mostly because I wasn’t sure what the garlic/olive oil combination would taste like. However, when I tried it, I was actually surprised about how good it was. I couldn’t really taste the olive oil (though I could tell the pasta had some on it) but pasta entrée had just the right amount of garlic on it; enough to give it flavor without the pasta being too strong.
As I said before, this was the only item I ended up having seconds of. In fact, we didn’t have any leftovers because I ended up eating the rest of it (I didn’t even bother using a fork) while putting the food away.
If you are looking for a great tasting side dish that doesn’t cost too much money, I would recommend this product.
