Ever since I first started developing dry scalp, I have been a Head and Shoulders man. In fact, I have used that shampoo for the last 15 years or so without changing brands.
However, a few days ago, I ran out. I forgot to pick up some more when we were out shopping and really didn’t feel like going out again so I ended up using one we already had in our bathroom; Walgreen’s Medicated Dandruff Shampoo.
This is a product my wife originally bought because she likes the brand Selsun Blue and figured this was a cheaper alternative. Since she doesn’t use it very often (she is one of those women that has three or four shampoos she alternates between), she told me I was free to use it.
I used it once and the very next day made sure to buy my Head and Shoulders.
I was actually a bit surprised I didn’t like this product because, even though I do prefer Head and Shoulders, I’m not the type of person who is very picky when it comes to something like shampoo. But, there ended up being a couple things about this particular one I really didn’t like.
The main one was the smell. I believe this is the case with Selsun Blue too. But, this particular shampoo has sulfur in it. And, when you use it, you really can smell it. I probably wouldn’t have minded it too much if it wasn’t so strong and didn’t burn my nostrils. However, it was an odor that I honestly could not stand and didn’t appreciate it when it was in my hair.
I also don’t feel like this shampoo worked even a fraction as well as my regular brand. My hair gets a bit greasy (which is why I have to wash it almost daily) and the Walgreen’s Medicated Dandruff Shampoo didn’t do anything for that. After using it, my hair felt like it hadn’t been washed yet.
Perhaps the things I didn’t like about this shampoo are only a matter of personal taste and there really are people out there who would use this and not have any issues with it. However, as far as I’m concerned, the next time I run out of my Head and Shoulders, I will run to the store (regardless of the hour of night) and pick up some more rather than use this again.
