Little girls love to make things for their dolls, but without a lot of skills, it can be hard. A little girl might not know how to knit, crochet or sew and that can make it difficult to make new dollhouse things by herself. With a piece of ribbon, though, even young girls can create fabulous throw pillows for their dolls!
Purchase wide ribbon to make any number of easy doll pillows. The type of ribbon you use should be a type that does not have the wires along the edges. Also, the pillows will look much more comfortable if the ribbon is the cloth type rather than a slick-look type used for gift wrapping.
It doesn’t take very much ribbon to make a simple dollhouse throw pillow. Cut a long rectangle, fold it in half to make a smaller rectangle, then glue around three sides. Since doll pillows are so small it’s best if you leave one of the long sides open on the pillow.
Give the pillow a more finished look when you fold the ribbon so that the right sides are together. Glue around three sides, allow the glue to set, then turn the pillow right-side-out. It can be really difficult to turn the tiny pillow so you can make a simpler version, if you want. Fold the ribbon piece so that the wrong sides face each other, glue around three sides, then allow it to set.
Stuff the pillow with anything from polyester filling to cotton balls to pieces cut from a plastic trash bag. Stuff the pillow – but not too much – then glue the final side shut. To help hold this piece shut while the glue dries use a couple of clothes pins.
The pillows you make don’t necessarily have to be square or rectangular. Make a circle or oval shapes from the ribbon to make all sorts of throw pillows. These can even be embellished to make them a little fancier. a little girl can glue on a tiny bow, add fringe around the perimeter, or just draw on the pillow with a marker.
The dollhouse throw pillows are really easy for a young girl to make and are suitable in a living room or bedroom of the dollhouse. Even make larger versions and put them on the floor for the dolls to sit on. They’re very nice and cost very little to make!
