When the economy slows down things like shopping and decorating can come to a screeching halt. But, just because money is tight doesn’t mean we don’t long to have a few new things; give a room a new look. Yes, when the economy slows down that’s the time for you to get creative; find ways to continue enjoying life without spending lots of money. You can do just that, and create a new look for a room in your home, when you choose designs that use inexpensive supplies.
When you think of various types of wall décor you must know that most are quite costly. Whether you opt for a giant mural, a set of mirrors, or just new wallpaper you’re going to invest some money. However, there are some new looks you can give a boring wall that won’t cost much at all. Shop for craft foam and you’ll be able to do any number of new designs that look fabulous.
Craft foam is really inexpensive and comes in a variety of colors. You’ll find it in colors of black and white, rainbow colors, neon colors and even glitter types. You can purchase it by the piece or by packs featuring assorted colors. Have in mind the design you want to do so you can get an idea of how many pieces you’ll need and of what colors. No matter what design you choose you’ll need to purchase the foam in the 12″x12″ pieces.
The basic design is the same but you can change it to suit what you want. Hang the foam squares so that you create an arrangement of squares. Arrange the squares so that they’re horizontal on the wall or do a vertical arrangement. One example is to hang a square on the wall then place one beneath it, leaving a gap between the two. Now hang another square beside the first one, and another below it, aligning them with the first two squares, but leaving a gap between all squares. Continue adding two more, and two more, until it’s as long or as tall as you want it to be.
You have a huge selection of designs you can create simply by the way you hang the tiles. Butt them together to create one look, space them apart to create another. Do only two rows that go across just one wall or make three rows, down each side of a wall, and leave the middle of the wall plain. Or, do a whole, small wall in the squares with spaces between them.
Since the foam squares are very thin you’ll likely enjoy the wall design much better if you stack and glue several together. These thicker blocks create a much more substantial appearance. Try stacking four blocks then see if you want them to be even thicker, and if you do, add a couple more. Although foam blocks don’t seem like something too fancy, when you hang them on your wall, they give a striking appearance.
Do variations by first painting the wall behind the squares, then leaving large gaps between the squares so the background color can be seen, or by hanging all different colors of square blocks rather than the same color. Times might be tough but that doesn’t mean you can’t have new things. The unique wall designs can be done for under ten bucks!
