I can’t get out to shop much anymore. Part of it is due to health issues and the rest of it is because we share a single vehicle, which my husband always has with him.
While I like shopping on QVC and Home Shopping Network, some of their clothing and shoes are just too expensive for someone living on a fixed income. For the past year or so I have been exploring shopping online. The results have been mixed.
If you read my review of Woman Within (.com), you know my first experiences with internet shopping were not good ones. Out of all the items I ordered, I received only one of them in the size I wanted. One other was sent to me in a size I couldn’t possibly wear. Even the one I received that was sized correctly turned out to be much bigger than expected.
Because it would have cost me more to return that item than to give it away, that’s what I ended up doing. Hopefully someone at the local thrift shop can get use out of it.
Due to those early experiences, I almost didn’t try again. However, I got a catalog from a company called Roamans. In it were some really cute tops that I wanted. Consequently, I decided to give them a try. I’m so happy that I did.
Roamans specializes in larger sizes from 12 and up, although they also carry smaller sizes in some things. Since I fall somewhere in between the two extremes, there is usually something in their catalog that strikes my fancy.
My first order consisted of a menswear inspired button down cotton shirt, a notch neck knit tunic, a v-neck knit tank, and a square mega tunic.
Although I found the menswear cotton shirt slightly smaller than the sizing chart indicated, it still worked for me. I have a tendency to order things that offer a little extra room.
The stunning white shirt was accented with chocolate pinstripes, which proved to be slimming as well as classy looking. I loved that collar was stiff enough that I could pop it up if the mood hit me.
All an all this shirt was nearly perfect. I particularly liked the $5.59 price tag. Thank heavens for 30% coupons.
The notch neck tunic, which I ordered in khaki was another near perfect selection. I loved the way the neckline framed the face while still showing a bit of skin. The 30″ length was another bonus because it made this tunic perfect for wearing with leggings.
The polyester/cotton fabric was high quality with enough body to keep the shirt from looking like your typical tee. Again, at $5.59, this purchase was a sure-fire bargain.
I appreciated that the v-neck tank was long, at 28″. I hate short tanks that don’t cover your stomach much less your derriere. This shirt skimmed over both for a slimming line that would flatter any woman.
The sky blue color was heavenly and exactly matched the jacket I had chosen it for. For a mere $4.89, this purchase was one of my best.
While I didn’t like the square mega tunic I ordered in black quite as much as the other pieces, I still found it to be a good purchase for just over $6. Its 32″ length is perfect. My daughter could wear it as a dress. For me, it was a great choice to wear over leggings.
The one thing I regret about my purchases is that I didn’t buy more of everything while the prices were ridiculously low. Having been burned by Woman Within, I chose to be cautious. In this instance that didn’t serve me well.
Ordering with Roamans is simple. You can choose to create your own online account and receive their catalog and periodic coupons or you can order as a guest. You can also order via their customer service line at 1-800-459-1025.
Roamans runs different types of promotions constantly. These can range from reduced or no shipping to a percentage off of your purchase. They even have a deferred payment plan that lets you try the item out for 90 days before you actually pay for it.
If you aren’t satisfied with your purchase, Roamans will refund your money or give you a credit toward future purchases. Which you receive is dependent upon the amount of time between your purchase and return, the condition of the merchandise at the time or return and whether or not you have the original packing slip.
If you choose to create your own online account, you can track your order as it as it is being prepared and shipped. It will let you know when the item has been shipped; which carrier was used and give you the tracking number.
The obvious downside to online ordering is that you can’t try the clothing on before you make the purchase. However, if you follow Roaman’s sizing charts, I have found them to pretty accurate. That way you can order true to size.
There are far more upsides to ordering this way. The clothing selection is broader than you will typically find locally. That is especially true if you happen to be a plus size woman. Roamans doesn’t discriminate on style or relegate you to grannyville.
The coupons and special offers provided are far better than anything you will find locally. Oftentimes, Roamans also offers free returns. That’s great because then you can take a risk on ordering something that is outside your box of normality.
The customer service people are remarkably helpful and friendly. I decided to cancel one of my orders and it took no time at all. The customer representative was wonderful and she didn’t try to change my mind or get me to order something else. Score one for the good guys!
With Romans clothing at my fingertips I doubt I’ll ever worry about shopping again. I can just sit back, relax and wait for the special offers to help me purchase the perfect wardrobe.
