On October 21st, 2010, the entire Sacramento County was in shock after hearing about the Roseville Galleria going up in flames earlier that day.
The Roseville Galleria had just opened an entire new section of the mall that included high-priced stores such as Tiffany & Co, Louie Vitton, and more name brand stores with over thousands of dollars worth of merchandise inside. Fortunately enough, these stores were not directly hit by the fire, for the fire was on the east side of the mall, on the upper level. It was started by a twenty-three year old male named Alexander Piggee.
Alexander Piggee has been check in and out of different hospitals, and has been diagnosed by a health care facility of having, “Bi-Polar split personalities.” His Facebook wall postings have included him talking about being bi-polar, as well has doing drugs. Apparently, Piggee had been in a car accident a couple weeks ago leaving him in a coma.
“Gettin hit by another car going 70 miles per hour f**** hurts, but when my head busted against the window I got knocked out for three days.” He posted on October 13th at two in the morning.
Could these disorders have caused him to start the fire at the mall or was it caused by something else? Authorities also think that he was the suspect who caused fire to a Walmart in Sacramento just a few hours prior to the mall burning. AOL News reports that his mother had just recently kicked him out of her house, which caused a lot of anger from Piggee.
Investigators say that Piggee was armed when he entered the Game Stop at the Roseville Galleria, and told everybody to get out. The mall was then evacuated before the fire started. Fortunately nobody was harmed. They found him hiding in the mall when they entered the mall, and held him at the mall before taking him into custody. Firefighters didn’t want to enter the building to put out the fire because Piggee claimed that he had left a backpack inside, and they feared that the backpack may have contained a bomb.
The fire burned until late that night, and they had discovered that there was nothing in the backpack except items to start the fire. There are still holes in the ceiling from the fire, and there is over 6.5 million dollars worth of damages.
Piggee is being held with no bail.
