Royal Oak’s controversial proposed ban on medical marijuana has been temporarily put on the back burner. The initial reading of the zoning ordinance passed back in September; a second passage is required for the ordinance to go into effect. Two City Commission members – Dave Poulton and Patricia Capello – asked for additional time in order to study the issue further. In turn, the commission voted 5 – 2 to put a moratorium on the proposed ban for 120 days. The two commission members supported the measure back in September. It remains unclear whether they will support the zoning ordinance during the second passage.
