Royal Oak resident Jim Townsend was one of the few bright spots for state House Democrats this past week, winning the chance to represent Michigan’s 26th district. He won with 52 percent of the vote.
Townsend ran his campaign in the spirit of bipartisan cooperation, in the belief that conflict holds the state back, not helps. This is his first political office, and he hopes to see state legislators able to work together to emphasize the state’s strengths. He has said he believes a lot of those strengths are to be found in his new district, which includes Royal Oak, where he lives, and Madison Heights.
