Once you have accounts set up with your mobile advertising network and your mobile affiliate network, you are ready to actually run a campaign. The first thing you want to do is choose a CPA (cost per acquisition) offer you want to run. You do this by taking a look at the CPA offers the mobile affiliate network has and choosing the one you feel will do well for you. There are a number of ways to choose which CPA offer will do the best but for now we are just going to choose a campaign to run a test on.
The mobile campaign I will be running a test on is a “make money from home” CPA offer. This offer has different landing pages for different cell phone models. There is a landing page specifically optimized for the IPhone, Android, Blackberry, and the feature phone. A feature phone is a phone that isn’t classified as a smart phone, in other words, it is your normal everyday cell phone.
The mobile advertising network allows you to choose specific models of phones so you can insure that you only send specific traffic to specific landing pages.
This particular CPA offer only allows traffic from the United States. When you set up your campaign from your mobile advertising network, you will choose the particular cell phone you want to target and you will choose the United States from the demographics settings. You will want to target all cell phones in the beginning because it is less expensive that way. For example, if you target just the Blackberry, you will pay 15 cents per click as opposed to only 5 cents per click.
Once you have your campaign set up, you just press run and your mobile advertisement will start running. You will want to make sure you set a daily limit as far as your budget is concerned so that you don’t spend too much money until you know your ad is going to be profitable. For my initial test, I set the limit for $50. At 5 cents per click, this would give you 1000 clicks. This should be enough to find out whether or not the campaign has the potential to be successful or not.
Once the ads begin to run, you will find out that with so many billions of cell phones being used constantly, your ad will get hundreds of thousands of impressions in a matter of minutes. You will also go through your $50 budget usually within an hour or less.
The CPA offer that we chose pays $1.30 per email submission for feature phones and $1.75 for smart phones. Since we chose all phones in the settings, we will have to send them all to the feature phone landing page so we will make $1.30 each time someone enters their email address for the CPA offer.
You would think that if someone saw an ad on their cell phone that said “Make Money From Home” and they clicked the ad, they would actually be interested in entering their email address to get information on how to make money from home. However, that isn’t always the case! Many people are just curious to see what happens when they click the ad. Others just don’t want to submit their email address because they think they are obligating themselves for something or they will get spammed.
In the test that I ran, out of 1000 clicks only 27 people actually entered their email address. That is only 2.7 percent. So, at $1.30 per submission, that’s $35.10 that we made! Not bad, huh!
Oh, wait a minute, we spent $50 didn’t we! Ok, that’s not good. We spent $50 to make $35. That’s not a way to make money, that’s a way to lose money.
