Salt is neither a herb or spice, but has been used to preserve food for thousands of years. Salt is produced through either mining of the earth (rock salt) or evaporation of sea water (sea salt).
There are three types of salts: table salt, which is a fine-grained with many of the natural mineral impurities removed during the refining process. This salt is known as the popular all-purpose kitchen salt. Kosher salt, which has larger and irregularly-shaped grains than table salt and doesn’t contain any additives. This type of salt is known to be used as what we may know it as “margarita salt”. Sea salt, which is less refined than table salt or kosher salt and contains other minerals that affect the color and flavor of the salt.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of benefits to salt besides what it use to do, putting it on the rims of our margaritas and increasing our chances of high blood pressure. I would have liked to see if it helped with some type disorder or ailment, but just like the rest of you, I am a bit shocked to see there were no benefits of salt. I take it is only good for seasoning. Maybe next time, salt.
