I decided to look at the state of business down in the Dogpatch last night around 7pm. The Giants were playing and it was Halloween. Economically, that is about as good as it gets. I decided to sample a few places around the Dogpatch. All the core businesses were closed of course, and there was virtually no foot traffic except around Moshi Moshi.
First, Dogpatch Cafe was already closed. I think they probably closed early due to the holiday. Retox Lounge is a bar that is two storefronts down from Dogpatch Cafe. It was not too crowded at the time. There were a few people in the bar, but I don’t how much were customers and how many were staff. At Moshi Moshi, it was about three quarters full. At Poquito, everyone was circled around the bar, but there were quite a few open dining seats. There was live music at the Dogpatch Saloon and the game was on. The Dogpatch Saloon is probably the most lively of all the establishments, but there were not many customers standing or flowing out the door.
The whole neighborhood is a work in progress, but there are definitely some signs of life inside these few establishments. I would imagine that as the neighborhood starts to develop, that the best way to continue to visit the key restaurant and bars in the Dogpatch. They will tell us how the neighborhood is developing.
