Favored as a team that should win the NFC West, San Francisco 49ers are in search of a road win over the Atlanta Falcons October 3rd to turn the corner on their season. Michael Turner has returned to the field for the Atlanta Falcons and is giving quarterback Matt Ryan some additional options he has been missing the last few weeks.
The Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers are heading in different directions after both were considered preseason favorites to win their respective divisions. The Atlanta Falcons just disposed of their NFC South rival New Orleans Saints in overtime 27-24 and the San Francisco 49ers lost their third straight game to the 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs.
Passing Attacks of Atlanta Falcons & San Francisco 49ers Tells Tale of Better Team
Matt Ryan and his Atlanta Falcons are beginning to acquire the confidence they need to make their run for their first NFC South Division title. Ryan has been helped by solid running game led by Michael Turner and Jason Snelling. With the threat of a running game, Matt Ryan has the edge of being able to use the play action pass to freeze the defense.
Ryan’s weapons on offense include an excellent combination of a legendary pass catching tight end and a top ten NFL wide out. The tight end, Tony Gonzalez is one of the most sure handed receivers in the NFL and presents a perfect target for Ryan going across the middle of the field. Roddy White is the explosive wide receiver that is Ryan’s number one option.
Mike Singletary has his work cut out for him trying to develop San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith and his patience may run out if the team is 0-4 after this game. Smith has been inconsistent at best in the position and for every forward step of progress he makes he falls back two. Passing attack edge goes to the Atlanta Falcons over the San Francisco 49ers.
Running Game of Both San Francisco 49ers & Atlanta Falcons Stout
The only saving grace for the San Francisco 49ers is their running game led by Frank Gore. Gore is a one man machine that the San Francisco 49ers need to use to their advantage. Gore will be leaned on heavily in this game against the Atlanta Falcons and if he can run enough clock the San Francisco 49ers have a chance.
The Atlanta Falcons have now fallen into a situation where Michael Tuner and Jason Snelling are both capable running backs. The one two punch of these two backs gives Matt Ryan plenty of time to set up a solid offense. Running game edge goes to the Atlanta Falcons over the San Francisco 49ers.
