Excerpts from Sarah Palin’s new book “America by Heart” have been leaked online, but it looks like there’s definitely no place in her heart for reality show stars. So just how close does she get to demeaning daughter Bristol’s appearance on ‘Dancing with the Stars’, and how is ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’ better than the reality show she attacks?
Sarah Palin has continued to provide entertainment for all Americans, whether you love or her hate her. Of course she’s definitely been making bank lately, seeing as how her show ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’ has been doing extremely well ratings-wise. However, her detractors can revel in the fact that Sarah Palin’s Alaska might not have as much love for her. After all, Lisa Murkowski recently defeated Joe Miller, the Senate candidate backed by Sarah Palin, in the first successful write-in campaign since 1954. But while Alaska didn’t give Sarah Palin its heart this time around, the reality show star continues to tug at the heartstrings of the rest of America by attacking reality shows in “America by Heart”.
Gawker has released leaked excerpts from the book, which starts out with a lengthy description of the crowds that show up to see Sarah Palin speak and the clever signs they carry, with Sarah Palin later proceeding to rant about the work ethic of teenagers today (shouldn’t they all be busy making their own clever signs to carry around at political rallies instead of working?). This leads into an attack on a show with the word “America” proudly plastered in part of its name, as she pokes fun at the “deluded” and “self-esteem-enhanced” contestants on ‘American Idol’ who can’t sing but go on TV to try their hand at it anyway. Sarah Palin points out that talentless contestants may have been misled by other people into believing they have talent when they’re actually really terrible at singing. She also applauds judge Simon Cowell for pouring cold water on their heads and telling them the truth about their lack of talent.
So first she attacks a show that’s popular with many of her supporters in ‘American Idol’ (it was just three spots down from ‘Glenn Beck’ in a list compiled of the shows most popular with Republicans), and then she gets pretty darn close to demeaning Bristol Palin for being on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ (just replace the word “sing” in the paragraph above with “dance” and ‘American Idol’ with ‘Dancing with the Stars’, and you’ll see what I mean). But Sarah Palin does make sure to point out that Bristol Palin is a better role model than another famous single mom on TV: Murphy Brown. And after all that ranting about the talent-deprived losers on ‘American Idol’, she finally does acknowledge Bristol Palin’s appearance on ‘Dancing with the Stars’, an “uplifting, family-oriented show”. So apparently it’s okay for the already-successful “elite” to compete on reality TV for the fun of it, but not those following their dreams of doing something they love for a living.
And while Sarah Palin does her darndest to dash the hopes of would-be entertainers, she continues to be quite the entertainer herself on ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’, showing us how the average American lives by flying all over Alaska in a float plane and seeming to be on a perpetual vacation. So with her attempts at winning over fans by bashing one of their favorite reality TV shows and making sure Americans know just how much she hates working in a stuffy ol’ office (something Alaskans know all too well), it looks like Sarah Palin really does know America by heart.
