Roll up your sleeve and give blood. This simple act will help save lives and provide shelter for someone who is homeless during the Stanford Blood Center’s three day blood drive, November 22 to 24. For every two people who donate blood, the Center will donate money to Innvision homeless shelter. Innvision operates a local shelter, Hotel de Zink, which has 15 beds and allows those who are referred to stay for up to 90 days. Palo Alto and Menlo Park churches operate the shelter along with Innvision.
To participate in the “pairing up” blood drive, you must donate at one of the following three locations in Palo Alto and Mountain View: 3373 Hillview Ave., Palo Alto; 780 Welch Road, Suite 100, Palo Alto; or 515 South Drive, Suite 20, Mountain View.
To donate blood, all you need is an hour of time. Potential blood donors need to be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be healthy with no cold or flu symptoms. Before coming to give blood, a donor needs to eat some food and make sure to drink some fluids. A photo id will be required at the time of your appointment and donors need to fill out a short medical history form . To make a blood donation appointment online, visit bloodcenter.stanford.edu or call 888-723-7831.
