It’s almost like the kids in Carroll Gardens finally saw the film “Fight Club” and decided to alter the program to their own devices. Random acts of group violence against pedestrians is on the rise and while citizens and the police are concerned, the seemingly haphazard assemblage of these fighting kids leaves officials wondering what to do.
As reported in the Brooklyn Eagle (1), a tiny, 100 pound woman on Court Street recently was “cold-cocked…squarely in the jaw,” by a boy. The boy was one of a group and when she hit the street, a group of maybe, “gathered around, shoved her, and used racially incendiary language.”
Youth violence is nothing new but this recent spate has police searching for a root cause. A woman recently suffered attack “when two teenage girls beat her with a padlock.”
The teens in these bigger groups are also harder to identify or single out making arrest and prosecution a tough situation for police.
However the community is taking notice and police are cracking down. Teens in Carroll Gardens should probably figure out a new activity than senseless violence.
