September 23, 1869 The infamous “Typhoid Mary”, Mary Mallon was born. She was a cook who was responsible for the outbreak of typhoid in New York in 1904, 1907, and 1914. According to reports, she was immune, but a carrier and spread it to the clients’ households that she cooked for.
September 23, 1923 Nancy Green died. Nancy Green was the face of Aunt Jemima Pancakes. She was hired to demonstrate the mix and in 1893, Chicago, her demonstration ended up so packed that police were called in to control the crowd. She died tragically in a car accident.
