Nothing beats a pint glass full of a local micro-brew. If you live in the Fresno area the best place to get a hand crafted beer is at Sequoia Brewing Company. Sequoia has two locations in Fresno that offer their wide selection of micro-brews on tap. Located on Olive Ave., the original Sequoia Brewing Company is located in the heart of Fresno’s unique Tower District. In 2005 a new location was opened in North Fresno, complete with a full bar, fireplace, and outdoor dining. Both locations feature live local musicians on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
The stars of the show at Sequoia Brewing are the beers. They offer 10 distinct micro-brews on tap year round. Sequoia has a variety of beers including pale ales, ambers, porters, and stouts. My two favorites are the General Sherman IPA (7.5% ABV) and the Tamarack Amber Ale (5.5% ABV). Both beers have strong flavors that are perfectly balanced that make them easy to drink. The Moto Brew (5.2% ABV) is also a popular choice for those looking for a lighter, smooth drinking beer.
Sequoia Brewing Company offers seasonal beers and specials in addition to their regular selections. The big hit in the cold winter months is the Jacob Marley Barley. If you happen to go to Sequoia at the right time you may be able to get your hands on a pint of Buzzsaw Double IPA. The Buzzsaw weighs in at 11% alcohol by volume and is flavored beautifully.
All of Sequoia’s beers are great to be enjoyed at the bar and you can also take some home. Sequoia offers 1 gallon growlers that can be purchased and then can be refilled at a discount. 5 gallon and 13.5 gallons kegs are also available for purchase.
In addition to great beer, both locations have outstanding food as well. Sequoia Brewing offers a great list of appetizers including garlic fries, nachos, and buffalo wings. For lunch or dinner, you can order off a menu that has salads, pastas, burgers, sandwiches, and more. If you have a big appetite you can even take on the Mighty Yeti. The Yeti is a third pound burger, two slices of ham, two eggs, four pieces of bacon, three slices of cheese, and four pieces of bacon. Conquering the Yeti in less than 5 minutes gets you a t-shirt and a case of heartburn.
If you are looking for a place to enjoy a beer or just to eat a great dinner, you should definitely check out Sequoia Brewing Company in Fresno.
