Go to your sock drawer and get out this year’s Halloween decorations. That’s not where you keep them? Sure it is! If you have socks, nylons and pantyhose you have a whole bunch of Halloween decorations for your yard. All you have to do is put them together and arrange them outside.
Make legs that stick up out of a bush or another place by stuffing a pair of pantyhose. Use cotton batting, shredded foam or other filler to stuff the hosiery. You can use the pantyhose as a whole or you can cut one leg off of them and stuff it. Put shoes on the hose, if you want, or don’t. Make the legs look even more eerie by using a blue marker to create veins or even red paint to create the appearance of blood. Place these in bushes, under a car, hung from a tree or even indoors, lying in a bed.
Make shorter leg sections by using knee-hi hosiery or knee-hi socks. Stuff them with the chosen filler then tie the ends shut. Create a severed blood vessel appearance by tying the sock closed with red yarn. Use several pieces, and tie them this way and that, then trim them to various lengths. Place a shoe on the sock – if you want – then stick the leg in any number of places in the yard or inside.
Even an ordinary ankle sock can be made to look like a severed body part. Stuff the sock then cut a circle of red craft foam. Position the circle inside the ankle area of the sock. Place it in a shoe, if desired. Now glue some pieces of red yarn to the foam, and allow them to hang out from the sock, to make the blood vessels. Or, use red plastic-coated wire for a similar effect. Lay the fake feet on a porch, deck, driveway, vehicle or another area around the house.
If you have no socks or pantyhose you can use for this project you can still make body parts to throw around the yard. Just use double-sided tape or glue to attach the pant leg from an old pair of pants to the shoe. Stuff the pant leg and tie or tape it shut. It might be necessary to also stuff the shoe, depending upon the type of shoe you use.
Make a set of legs that stand on their own when you use a pair of old pants and a pair of boots. Take long wooden dowels and wrap the stuffing around them. Work the pant legs over the dowels and add extra filling, if needed. Position each dowel so that it goes down into one of the shoes. These can stand next to the house, a bush or any number of other areas, inside or out.
It’s fun to make crazy Halloween decorations yourself, isn’t it? You don’t usually need a lot of money to create silly or spooky decorations, and in many cases, you have the option of using the decoration year after year or disassembling it right after the holiday.
