The mid-term elections of November, 2010 are getting a lot of media coverage. As the antics of the political parties grow ever more heated, some musicians, such as Sheryl Crow, are also speaking out and taking a stand against some people in politics who they abhor. Sheryl Crow has penned a song that bashes Sarah Palin. Will the song have an impact on politics? That probably depends on how much radio play time it will get as the election approaches.
Sheryl Crow Angry over Sarah Palin’s Use of “Reload”
Sheryl Crow is not a fan of Sarah Palin. She speaks out against Palin in her new song “Say What You Want.” She implies that Palin is a negative influence on the youth of America. Crow seems quite angry that Palin is using gun imagery in her speeches, such as the word “reload.”
Many Americans have been upset with Sarah Palin for constantly evoking a kind of Wild West America where having a gun is just a part of life. Palin’s use of a poster showing gun aim symbols over the faces of Democrats running for election was also deemed very offensive by many Americans.
Sheryl Crow Speaks her Mind in “Say What You Want”
And now Sheryl has released a song that lets out her anger over how Palin is trying to influence the country with her campaign full of gun rhetoric. Sheryl’s song “Say What You Want” is anti Palin and it is powerful. The lyrics include:
“I saw you ranting on TV today
I heard you tell me to reload
You got a lot of nerve to talk that way
Someone unplug the microphone.”
The song goes on to talk about the state of politics in America with the Machiavellian strategies and lies of the far right.
“Cynicism and back biting
Can’t even hear myself think
You pour the kool-aid and then we all drink.”
Kool-aid indeed, this campaign season seems to be offering up quite the drink of non-reality to Americans. We hear much talk about the Birthers, the people who insist Obama is not a Christian, and how Obama is anti-American. The GOP is swinging around some wild mistruths in an attempt to deceive the American public.
Sheryl Crow is speaking out against all that. She is using her talent to try to remind Americans that Sarah Palin does not represent the real America. Instead Palin is a throwback to a time when people like Obama, who is of mixed heritage, faced a rougher road in this country. Palin speaks to an America where violence was used to keep everyone but white Christians in line.
Palin’s America is an unsavory place indeed. And she’s no leader either. She betrayed Alaska by quitting her job as Governor. She took a long time to make it through college too. She hasn’t showed the gravitas or intellect it takes to be president.
Kudos to you Sheryl Crow. You have written a song that speaks to the evils of the campaign of hatred used by Sarah Palin. “Say What You Want” is a powerful song that sends an important message.
Predictions by Sheryl Crow about November Elections
Sheryl Crow made some predictions about the November elections. Newsbusters reports that Crow thinks “The Tea Party is going to split the Republican vote…Which can only be good for the Democrats.”
