I’ve lived in San Diego, California my entire life so when I made the transition to Orange County.. I had to find a suitable Ramen place that would suffice all my regular spots in San Diego. I came across Shin Sen Gumi in Fountain Valley, California and was pleased to see how similar it was to my hometown which 2 hours away.
Shin Sen Gumi was introduced to me by my then roommate who raved about this place. My first time being there, I didn’t try their ramen because I was craving something with rice. During my second and third visit, I was fortunate enough to try their delicious ramen! The best part is the ramen comes out piping hot so you know its fresh off the stove. I can’t describe the taste but it was purely satisfying in every way possible. You can add extra noodles for $.99. If you come with a party of 2, your check will be less than $20. One thing I found ridiculous is how they charge for refills. I spent $4 for 2 cups of apple juice. That $4 could have bought me a jug from a local convenience store.
The place is fairly easy to find since its located inside a plaza with other stores. Parking is easy to find. The wait to get inside this place can be a hassle if you go during nights or weekends. My longest wait time was about 25 minutes but the taste of this place is completely worth it.
The inside of this place is ridiculously tiny. I wouldn’t recommend having a birthday party here or even coming with a large group of people. They can’t accommodate very many people. They do have a nice sushi bar if you want to come alone but other than that, they have tables for 2. You might be able to get away with a table for 4 but the room is this place is unmanageable.
Overall, this place is delicious. If they could expand their space, I’d definitely come here often. I have to pick and choose who I go with since their place is so small but the flavor of their food is worth at least one visit!
