A man in Baltimore, Maryland entered John Hopkins Hospital on September 16, in which he shot his mother’s doctor, kill his mother, and then committed suicide. In the article “Man kills mother, self at Baltimore hospital after wounding doctor,” the CNN Wire Staff writes “Police identified the mother as Jean Davis, age 84, and her son as Paul Warren Pardus, age 50, of Arlington, Virginia.”
While this comes as shocking news of yet another public threat that ended in death, it is something that recent news is becoming all too familiar with. Less than three weeks ago on the first of September, James Jay Lee entered the Discovery Channel headquarters, which is also in the state of Maryland, and put the lives of others in danger. The Washington D.C. incident was intense since Lee was said to have bombs and not just a handgun which everyone was aware of. Since Lee also took hostages, this caused a negotiation to take place so as to avoid any casualties. Police were able to take control of the situation when they finally moved in on Lee.
“At least one device on the man’s body went off when he was shot inside the building…” states the article “Police Kill Discovery building gunman.”
In just one month, we have had two very heavily reported incidents that involved a tense situation which resulted in the death of the suspects. While one man took his own life, the other had to be shot in order to take control of the situation. Thankfully, Lee was the only casualty in the D.C. Discovery Channel stand-off. Unfortunately the same can not be said of the John Hopkins Hospital shooting.
We can only hope that these recent events will bring about a heighten gun awareness that will aid in avoiding these types of unfortunate situations.
