As a direct sequel to the first (Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven), comes the critically acclaimed masterpiece known as Mafia II. It was created by 2K Czech, formerly known as Illusion Studios and was designed by Daniel Vávra. While the original game’s successful platform was the PC, the sequel is coming out for Microsoft Windows, the PS3, the XBOX 360 and OnLive.
The game begins with a returning WWII veteran Vito Scaletta, who is the son of Sicilian immigrants and as we watch the unfolding cut scenes, he becomes a made man.
One of the notable aspects of Mafia II is the incredible voice-overs and detail to each character: appearance and personality-wise. The graphics and times in which you drive around the city looking for something to do, sometimes does appear monotonous, but that’s only for minutes at a time. The rest of the game though is filled with excellent cut scenes, which are vibrant and inclusive.
Most critics find fault that the gameplay is too stiff and unequipped as a third person shooter, but they could be wrong. The weapon assortment is great, the reload speed is quick, and it’s super clean and fun to make those headshots. The hand-to-hand combat sequences aren’t too upgraded, true, but who says repeatedly pressing a button to increase damage isn’t a gamer’s style?
Look out for the Collector’s Edition and the 2 DLC packs exclusively for the PS3 titled “The Betrayal of Jimmy” and “Jimmy’s Vendetta” which will come out for other platforms at a later date.
Also be sure to use the game’s mechanics throughout your missions to roam the city, take care of business and become a made man.
This game was rated 18 by the BBFC, MA15+ by the OFLC and M by the ESRB. It costs $59.99, so find it now at Amazon online, Fry’s Electronics, Gamestop, or at any other videogame retail store.
Enjoy and happy gaming from Charlie!
