There is a lot of controversy surrounding the decision to keep wolves in the western states on the endangered species list. This is a puzzling problem and I can see the view of both sides but now a new problem arises in that the endangered species list is now being scrutinized. If things go badly this means that other endangered animals may not get the protection they deserve.
The anti-wolf groups say that the wolves are doing damage to livestock and other animals. They have pictures of dogs being killed and other animals ripped apart by wolves. Hunters want to hunt them and bag a wolf and others just plain hate wolves because of past information. Wolves can be intimidating and they do scare some people.
Pro-wolf groups claim that the wolf is making a comeback since being reintroduced to states like Wyoming , Idaho and Montana but that the number of wolves is not enough to take them off the list.
Wolves are natural predators. Just like the human hunter they need to kill animals to feed their families. The Endangered Species Act was established to protect animals that are endangered. For wolves they would like to see 300 in each state before they take them off the Endangered Species List and wolf numbers are not that high yet.
Wolves are not angels and they do make mistakes like the rest of us but they are also in need of our help or we could lose them again. For some people they would like to see them gone but they are God’s creatures and they deserve to be here just like the rest of us.
Because of people pushing to get the wolf off the Endangered Species List the list itself is now at risk of being altered or disregarded. I think the right thing to do is to let the wolf stay on the Endangered Species List until they reach the goal of number of wolfs per state. There will be plenty of time to bag a wolf once their numbers are up.
This is a fight that no one seems to be winning and now other endangered animals may suffer because of it. It makes no sense to change the rules about endangered animals now since there have been many animals that have made comebacks because of the protection. We need to stop changing or making rules to get around other rules and laws. When we change rules others can get hurt in the process and in this case they will.
