Halloween costumes seem to get smaller and smaller each year. Are there really any women out there donning these tiny outfits in public? I had a chance to question 15 women across the country on whether or not they had purchased a sexy Halloween costume to sport in public and why – or why not.
“I remember dressing up in a sexy outfit for Halloween while in high school. I had been dumped by my boyfriend and certainly needed a boost in my confidence and got what I was looking for as many guys hit on me.” – Rene, Middlesboro, Ky.
“I dressed like a hooker one year. Once I saw the pictures, I regretted it instantly.” – Samantha, Newark, N.J.
“I’ve never purchased one, but I have put one together out of clothes I already owned; It was a sexy schoolgirl outfit. I suppose Halloween just feels like one of those rare times when it’s acceptable to be publicly provocative!” – Shawna, Provo, Utah
“Does my flasher outfit count? Probably not, but I did stop the police that night. Never bought one like that. It’s hard to be sexy when you look like the Stay Fresh Marshmallow Man.” – Beth, Eaton, Ohio
“No, I haven’t. I’ve never been comfortable with wearing sexy outfits like that. Just not me.” – Billie, Clyde, Texas
“Once I rented a sexy devil costume for Halloween night. It looked like a skimpy red one-piece swimsuit complete with red tights, a long devil tail and horns. I paired it up with high heels for a night on the town with a new guy I had just started dating. I was hoping to ensure future dates with my sexy costume. The relationship lasted three months.” – Sara, Sioux City, Iowa
“Sort of – I made it rather than purchased it and it was when I was 17 and full of daring-do. I dressed as a hooker in a sequined outfit with hot pink, fake eyelashes a mile long. I did it because a friend of mine and I were going to a costume party. He dressed as my pimp complete with platform shoes. We looked pretty good together. We walked in costume six blocks to the party. I would never do it now – not unless my intention was to scare someone!” – Theresa, Creal Springs, Ill.
“No, I just don’t see the point in doing that in public. However, for my sweetheart, that might be a different story… one I wouldn’t tell.” – Lyn, Denver, Colo.
“Yes, I have! I wear them to go clubbing and win prizes. – Michelle, Tazewell,Tenn.
“I did buy one for a Halloween party once only because there were no modest costumes available for adult ladies, so I modified it slightly to suit my needs. Some of the outfits they call costumes should only be worn in the bedroom and not for public consumption.” – Angie, Arcanum, Ohio
“I’ve never purchased a sexy Halloween costume to wear in public, but I have assembled my own for Halloween parties. A slinky black dress, tasteful cleavage, over-the-top hair, dramatic eyes and lipstick and a fancy feather mask can capture the attention of the right guy on All Hallow’s Eve. A little mystery goes a lot further than a lot of exposed booty.” – Pam, Boston, Mass.
“I have never bought a sexy Halloween costume to wear in public. I have a very public job and it is such a small town, so I have a professional reputation to uphold.” – Gwen, Sneedville, Tenn.
“Yes, I have. It was a gypsy costume. I have always loved that style of dress, but was too shy to wear something like that in the crowd I ran with. Halloween gave me the perfect excuse to “dress up” the way I actually would like to.” – Lorraine, Elkhart, Ind.
“Nope, I have not. I have thought about it several times, but since I am a fat girl, I always went against it.” – Brandi, Taylor, Mich.
“I have never purchased a sexy Halloween outfit to wear in public because I would rather make my costumes and they usually don’t turn out too sexy.” – Kari, Knoxville, Tenn.
