For many professionals, working out can become more and more of a chore. With corporate demands of employees on the rise as the recession forces staff sizes to decrease, finding time to work out may cause the stress that it’s supposed to alleviate. As a working and writing professional, I was finding it increasingly more difficult to get to the gym which made going into a laborious ritual. I found that when I got there, I was immediately mapping out my time available for fitness instead of placing the emphasis on the healthy lifestyle that I was attempting to envision. What many have to keep in mind is that mental health can be as important as bodily health. Once I came to that realization, I had to design a fitness routine that fit into my corporate lifestyle with minimal impact and provided the necessary physical trials to meet my fitness needs while simultaneously giving me the mental relaxation time necessary for the brain to recharge. Also, I found that you don’t need the many machines that the gym offers. You can get a great work out by following a few simple work out tips.
Work out Tip #1 – Cardio
You don’t need to run a marathon to meet cardio needs. In fact, for aging or heavier people running may not be the best thing for your knees. Running around on a track for some may be good, but for others it can be unhealthy and rather boring. I have the luxury of living directly next to a national park. I found that walking the trails in the park were relaxing and still provided me with the necessary cardio work out without all the running. I also found that walking was much more fun when I had a walking buddy. When a friend isn’t available, I would break out the Bluetooth technology and catch up with friends or family during my walks. I went on Craigslist and found a very inexpensive treadmill that allowed me to walk on my deck in the backyard which I also found very relaxing. Be sure to walk three to four times a week to insure that you get enough Cardio. While doing all of this walking, you’ll tone and shape your legs eliminating a need for all those leg machines. Also, incorporate arm swings and punching exercises during your walk. Don’t try to be Rocky, just some basic arm extensions to tone your arms.
Work out Tip #2 – ABS
If you talk to any of the major fitness clubs or watch any fitness channels, they’ll do a great job of convincing you that you have to join their club or buy their product because it’s the only thing that works. All abdominal routines work if you stay with it to a level of consistency and with proper diet. If you have lower back problems, sit ups or crunches may be out of the question, but you can still get a great work out. Places like EBay and Craigslist provide discount AB Rockers, AB Rollers and other great abdominal products at great prices. Having these items in your home make it convenient to work out and get this difficult body part under control. You need to make sure that whether you’re doing crunches, sit-ups, using a video tape or an abdominal product that you do this 3 times a week and do it on the days that you don’t walk. The key here is to be patient. Your abs didn’t get out of shape over night, so don’t expect to get them back in a week.
Work out Tip – Conclusion
By adjusting my cardio to walking at or near my home and by making my abdominal routine a part of my in home life, I adjust a huge time dilemma. I also made the workout mentally relaxing again which for me and most of Americans is critical. Finally, you’ll find that you have saved quite a few dollars when you have released that expensive gym membership. During these times, there aren’t too many people that aren’t trying to save a dollar. Try following these simple work out tips.
