Simposio Ristorante is an Italian restaurant; with a name from the Italian that stands for a gathering place and that is what the owners (a father and son team) were aiming for. In fact they offer different events such as happy hour events, business lunches and Friday and Saturday night entertainment in the piano lounge.
Do not let the outside scare you away because the atmosphere and décor of the place is very elegant, simple and crisp and the service is quite fast and good, the restaurant serves northern Italian cuisine for the most part and the prices are a bit steep but the food is worth it.
As any good Italian restaurant Simposio has a very extended wine list from the Lunetta Prosecco for $7 a glass to the Tommassi-Rompicollo from Tuscany for $12 to the Avalon Cabarnet for $10 to name a few, or you can also choose a bottle for the table which is more convenient if there are at least four people.
For their appetizer you can have the simple prosciutto e melon for $16, or the gamberoni alla Livornese con insalata di finocchio which is sautéed shrimp with Pinot Grigio and shaved fennel for $18, or even the insalata Simposio which includes arugula, endives, Portobello mushrooms and Parmesan shavings for $12.
For their pasta and risotto selection go with the ravioli di zucca burro e salvia which are pumpkin raviolis with sage and butter for $18, or the risotto agli asparagi con gamberi al aglio which is a risotto with asparagus and garlic shrimp for $20, or the tagliarini with a pesto sauce for $16.
While for their second entrées go with the trota arrosto which is a trout that comes with mixed green vegetables and a Pinot Grigio sauce, or the cernia which is the red snapper which comes with polenta for $29, or the grigliata mista which is grilled lamb chops, tenderloin medallion and Italian sausage served with polenta and asparagus for $36.
And if after all this you are still hungry there is to choose from their dessert list like the classic tiramisu, or the profiteroles Simposio which are pastry filled with vanilla and drizzled chocolate on top for $8, or even the torta robiolia con gelato which is a cake made with cheese and comes with a raspberry puree and strawberry gelato for $9.50, or try the cappuccino Dante which is cappuccino with Frangelico and Baileys for $9.50.
Simposio Ristorante is located at 8401 Westheimer and the hours of operations are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and stays closed on Sunday.
