A new play with musical numbers will open at the Irondale Center in Fort Greene, Nov. 12 through Dec. 11. The Irondale Center is just two blocks away from the controversial Atlantic Yards project that broke ground earlier this year.
The play titled, In the Footprint, will chronicle the many sides of the debate, and takes excerpts from interviews with local politicians, business owners, community activists and residents.
The Atlantic Yards project, first proposed by real estate developer Forest City Ratner in 2003, includes the new Barclays Arena for the New Jersey Nets. The 22-acre project will reshape the downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene and Prospect Heights neighborhoods; take 25 years to complete; and will include 16 high-rise buildings and 6,430 residential units.
