New Jersey native Jessie Baylin is busy preparing for the release of her new (yet to be titled) album by doing some residencies on both coasts and in her adopted home town of Nashville Tennessee, where she lives with her husband Nathan Followill drummer for Kings of Leon. Jessie has already tested the waters with a few performances in Nashville and New York City to sold out crowds and will continue with more live performances in Nashville and Los Angeles this month.
Jessie released her first album in 2008, called Firesight under the Verve label. She has since left her label so her music could unfold authentically. From what she shares with her fans it’s apparent that Jessie knows where she’s going and won’t compromise the journey. You have to give props to someone who stands up to the goliath record labels to stay true to themselves.
From the hints we’ve had so far; a beautiful christmas ballad called Mrs. Christmas released last winter and just recently a track off her new album unveiled on Spinner.com called Hurry, Hurry, already reveals a vibe reflective of the things that inspire Jessie the most. She’s a unique spirit with an old hippy soul with a splash of the blues. You get the sense she’s lived many lives and has come back to tell us about her adventures. From what we know of Jessie she’d be just as happy at a blues bar in Harlem listening to Billy Holiday sing live, swaying to Jefferson Airplane at Woodstock, or doing a duet with the likes of Dusty Springfield in beaded caftans and bouffants.
If Hurry Hurry is a reflection of her new album then expect some amazing music with old school influences and a present day edge with a beautiful sultry voice poured into the mix. You can catch Jessie’s live performances October 6th at The Basement in Nashville, and October 11 & 25th in Los Angeles at The Bootleg Theater. Don’t miss it!
