If you live Houston, TX the best weekend road trip you can take is to the Texas Hill Country. With wineries, biking and hiking trails, lakes, rivers, and antique shops there’s no shortage of things to do. My favorite thing about the Texas Hill Country is that it is dog friendly and who can imagine a road trip without their best friend?
The Singing Water Vineyards and Winery is a place all visitors should add to their must-do list. Located in the hills of Comfort, Texas the grounds are scenic, relaxing and dog-friendly. Dogs are even allowed in the winery while their owners taste test five different wines (for $5 per person), chocolate, nuts and crackers. The winery’s very own yellow Labrador Retriever, Lupe, is the inspiration for the sweet Merlot aptly named Sweet Lupe.
History and Fun Facts About the Winery
The first Merlot vineyard at the Singing Water Vineyards in Comfort, Texas was planted in 1998.
Singing Water describes the sound that fills the air as the Bruins creek water cascades over the waterfall on the property.
When the vines began producing, the grapes were sold to other Texas Hill Country wineries.
In May of 2005 the first commercial wines were sold. By October, they were sold out.
The grounds have a creek at the bottom of the property which make for a beautiful backdrop for a sunset photo. If you enjoy the wine, you can sign up for the wine club and free chocolate will be sent with every order. Taste testing only takes place Thursday through Sunday so plan your visit accordingly.
