Vermont is one of the most beautiful states in the east. It is known for its beautiful fall foliage and historical sites, all of which bring countless vacationers every year. While autumn and the beautiful colors may be the primary draw for most visitors to the state, there is also great skiing and resorts for families in Vermont.
Smuggler’s Notch, which is located in the Green Mountains near Burlington, Vermont, is one of the most family-friendly ski resorts in the United States. It is open in the summer, fall and winter with the autumn visitors receiving the lowest rates. “Smug” as the locals refer to it, works hard to fulfill their promise, “the most fun your children will ever have – we guarantee it.” Two teen centers, activities for on and off the slopes geared to different age groups, game systems, music, movies, laser tag, and a weekly dance make it possible for kids of any age to find something they enjoy. All activities are supervised so parents can enjoy themselves without worry. Childcare is available for very young children, as well.
Lodging for the Smug is available for groups of any size. Condos are available with studios that have a kitchenette, one and two bedroom condos with a full kitchen or 3-5 bedroom homes for families or larger groups. There are many packages available, which can include lodging lifts, lessons, childcare, and free equipment rental for first timers. It all adds up to an opportunity for the whole family to enjoy their time on the slopes.
Okemo Ski Resort
Okemo is located in Vermont within driving distance of Boston, Hartford and Albany. This resort is perfect for a family of new skiers or those of intermediate experience. Green and blue runs are found over the entire mountain so new skiers are not forced to stay on the bottom 20% of the range as many in the west. A ski school, with excellent instructors, is available for private and group lessons for those ages 2 and up. Rates are $80 for a half day and $110 for a full day. Reservations are needed.
A full spa service is available for those who need a little pampering or prefer seeing the sights and relaxing to being on the slopes. Day care is also available for $85 per day for children six months to 4 years old. So parents can have some time to play, as well.
