The Landmark Preservation Commission recently proposed a “Borough Hall Skyscraper Historic District.” The proposal included 20 buildings in the downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights neighborhoods.
The NY Post reported that the proposal states “the district contains many of the borough’s most architecturally distinguished business buildings. It states that the buildings selected to be included were “designed in a range of styles, the structures in the study area represent the work of an impressive group of architects.”
The historic district would include Borough Hall, the Municipal Building, the Romanesque Chamber of Commerce building, and the Temple Bar building.
The district should help to protect Brooklyn Heights from falling into the shadow of numerous, large-scale development projects that have shot up around downtown Brooklyn in the last several years.
