Thai people are very relaxed and peaceful people for the most part. However, when you upset a Thai person, you let a lion out of his cage and you don’t want to be standing in front of him at that moment. The point is not they are aggressive, but they can be and more than that, they can sort of disregard your existence, which may be worst than aggression. This article will focus in on four things you never want to say to a Thai person.
1) Kwai! Kwai in the Thai language translates to buffalo! Calling a Thai person a buffalo equates to calling an American a donkey, but the synonym for donkey. If you want to upset a Thai person, call them a buffalo and you will get the response you are looking for. Kwai is something you never want to say to a Thai person!
2) Never talk bad about the King of Thailand, especially to a Thai person! The Thai people love their King and respect him to the utmost. His six decades of leadership have earned great respect, not only from Thai people, but from all over the world. You do not want to say anything negative about the King or you could face a severe beating and you could also be given jail time. There are rules in place in Thailand that can get you arrested for talking negative about the King. Thailand’s King is a great man and it should not even be hinted that you are thinking negative about him.
3) Speaking negative about Buddhism is something you never want to say to a Thai person! According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_in_Thailand, Thailand is nearly ninety-five percent Buddhist and has been for a long number of years. Even if they are thinking of converting to your religion, talking negative about Buddhism may hinder them from converting.
4) Hurry up is something you never want to say to a Thai person! Thai people are not in a rush except on the road and if you try to hurry them up, you will not only be ignored all the more, but will be looked down on by the Thai people. Your turn will come when it arrives and trying to force that to happen is not looked well upon by Thai people.
The things you say are very important and the relationship you want to have with a Thai person is greatly influenced by your choice of words.
