South Korea has reported that North Korea has fired its artillery at the South Korean island that was attacked last week (for an update, read US, South Korea Play War Games After Deadly North Korea Attack).
Huffington Post has the update, South Korean Military Reports Artillery Fire (read here).
According to the report, one artillery round was heard from a North Korean military base which lies north of the sea border dividing the Koreas. The information comes from an official with South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (see Huff Post update).
The residents of Yeonpyeong Island were ordered to take shelter due to the sound, but the evacuation was later lifted.
The Korea Times reports:
“We have detected signs of attack on Yeonpyeong island, hearing the sound of artillery fire by North Korea,” said a military officer. “We ordered the evacuation of residents and reporters immediately.” (source)
