Halloween is a great time of the year to have a gathering for the young and old alike. Halloween costumes are plentiful and the excitement of sharing ghouls, ghosts and goblins brings the kid out in many individuals. Create a spooky entrance or party area with some simple quick craft items.
Create a hanging spider web from cheesecloth. Measure the desired location and cut the cheesecloth to length. Make small cuts along the length of one long edge. Cut or tear the strips into uneven lengths making sure not to rip or cut all the way through the fabric. Tear, snip and poke holes through the strips. Fray the edges by rubbing them between your hands. Use stickpins and secure the cheesecloth in the desired location. Attach plastic spiders with hot glue to the cheesecloth web.
Make glow in the dark ghosts with white balloons, a permanent black marker, cheesecloth and glow sticks. Break and insert a glow stick into a large white balloon. Blow up the balloon and tie. Draw a spooky face on the balloon surface with a permanent black marker. Cut a one to two yard piece of cheesecloth. Open the cheesecloth and drape it over the balloon. Use a rubber band or piece of string around the tied end of the balloon to create a neck. Tape the balloon to a flat surface or suspend from the ceiling.
Cut out silhouettes from black construction paper, tag board, poster board or railroad board. Tape the silhouettes on the walls, windows, steps or mirrors. Use silhouettes of cats, bats, mice, witches, warlocks, owls, moons, stars or birds.
Make ghosts to hand in trees to create a spooky yard. Cut pieces of cheesecloth anywhere from 36 to 48 inches long. Open the cheesecloth and fold the fabric in half. Drape the cheesecloth over a 6-inch styrofoam ball. Tie or rubber band the neck area. Use a darning needle and thread a piece of fishing line through the top of the stryrofoam ball. Suspend the flowing ghost figures on low branches in a tree. Add a face to the head using a permanent black marker.
Make a spider sack to hang from the ceiling. Wrap a two or three inch styrofoam ball with a piece of quilt batting. Place small plastic spiders on the surface of the quilt batting. Place the covered styrofoam ball in a white knee high stocking. Glue or attach larger plastic spiders on the outside of the sack.
Use a black light bulb in all light fixtures. The black light will make white and other light colored objects glow. Strategically place white scarey objects or glow in the dark Halloween decorations in the black light area for added abeyance.
