Most people get the creepy feeling when they see spiders. No wonder they are used a lot in spooky Halloween decorations. This is an especially spooky Halloween decoration that I created with my family this year and you can too.
You will need the following materials:
Lots of plastic Halloween spiders
White gauze or light weight cotton fabric
Synthetic spider web material
1 Large rubber spider
Hot glue gun and hot glue
Wrap the wreath with the white gauze or white light weight cotton fabric. We used gauze since we had it in our medicine cabinet. The wreath can either be a floral foam wreath or a grape vine wreath. We used a grape vine wreath to give it more dimension and character but they are a bit more expensive and the floral foam wreaths work just fine for this craft.
Wrap the wreath loosely in the spider web material and stretch it across so it forms a spider web in the center of the wreath. You can purchase spider web material at just about any store that sells Halloween decorations around Halloween time or you can find it on the web at Oriental trading company.
Use the fishing line to tie the large rubber spider to the wreath and let it dangle down below the wreath as though it dropped down from the web. You can find the rubber spider on line at fakebugs.com. These spiders do come with a string attached but I cut it off and use fishing wire instead because it is almost invisible like a spider’s would be and glistens if the light catches it just right making it seem more realistic and add to the scare factor.
We used plastic spider rings my kids were given through the years and end up all over in their room. We cleaned their rooms and collected all the plastic spider rings we could find. If you need to purchase these plastic spiders you can find them at here at Oriental Trading Company for fairly inexpensive. They even have glow in the dark spiders which will also be fun for your wreath!
Use the wire snips to cut the ring part of the plastic Halloween spiders off if you have the spider rings, if they are just spiders don’t worry about this step.
Use the hot glue and hot glue gun to glue the spiders all over the entire wreath and some on the web in the center. The more spiders you put on the creepier it will be.
Allow to dry and then hang on your front door to scare your guests!
