This StarCraft 2 unit guide will cover the Terran Auto-Turret. The Auto-Turret is a Terran automated defensive structure most commonly used as the temporary version placed by the Raven unit. The Auto-Turret is new in StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty and while it is available in melee through the Ravens ability only, it is sometimes seen in the Wings of Liberty campaign as a permanent defensive structure, such as in the mission ‘Ghost of a Chance’. As a temporary placement, the Auto-Turret costs 50 energy to be played for 18- seconds by the Raven.
There are several unique aspects to Auto-Turrets in StarCraft 2. It is considered a mechanical structure, repairable by SCVs but unlike most structures, is not armored, thus not receiving as much damage from units like Stalkers and Marauders. Auto-Turrets are capable of being placed on creep, which can prove useful when harassing Zerg mining operations. Since this is a structure, it is also immune to attacks like Neural Parasite and Psionic Storm. These can also be placed side by side to form a perfect wall.
Auto-Turrets are strong against the Immortal, Queen and are useful as effective spotters. They are weak against units like the Baneling, Reaper or Ultralisk, with their higher damage structure attacks. Auto-Turrets placed on ridges can make effective spotters and handfuls are capable of destroying an entire lightly defended expansion base. 2 Auto-Turrets are capable of destroying a Photon Cannon if neither are assisted.
