This StarCraft 2 unit guide will cover the Terran Missile Turret defense building. The Missile Turret makes a return from StarCraft in Wings of Liberty serving the role as anti air defense and detector for Terran players. The Missile Turret fires a pair of longbolt missiles with each shot, capable of outranging most air units besides Carriers, Brood Lords and the Battlecruiser’s Yamato gun. A row of Missile Turrets placed at the rear ridge of a base can help prevent flanking air drops, while placing a few next to entrances and resourcing operations can help prevent cloaked harassment attacks.
The Missile Turret is first available for use in the StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty campaign mission ‘Zero Hour’
Missile Turrets do well when placed on areas where air only attacks will be coming from, or when paired with Bunkers or Perdition turrets. There are also several upgrades in the campaign that can increase the overall effectiveness of Missile Turrets several times over, but as mentioned earlier, in the SC2: WoL campaign, Brood lords can be the bane of a Missile Turrets existence. The Protoss AI typically doesn’t have Carriers attacking the player’s base in the campaign, but when they do they typically are not adept at micro managing a carrier to stay outside of a Missile Turrets rage, as many human players are.

StarCraft 2 Terran Missile Turret Upgrades
Building Armor (melee only): Researched by the Engineering Bay (Hotkey B) this upgrade gives +2 armor to all Terran buildings, including the Missile Turret (2 Total). Excellent upgrade to help increase the longevity of all your buildings. Costs 150 minerals, 150 gas and 140 seconds.
Fire Suppression System (Campaign Only): Costs $90,000 to benefit all structures including the Terran Missile Turret by causing all fires to automatically be put out while buildings automatically repair themselves to 50%. Small drones are deployed that fly around damaged structures with a fire extinguisher like item they use on the building.
Hi-Sec Auto tracking (melee only): Researched from the Engineering Bay at a cost of 100 minerals, 100 gas and 80 seconds. This upgrade increases the range of the Missile Turret by +1 while increasing the range of other defensive turrets as well.
Titanium Housing (campaign only): This upgrade running $50,000 from the Hyperion armory increases the life of all Missile Turrets by +75 and changes the model of the unit slightly.
Hellstorm Batteries (campaign): This upgrade running $80,000 from the Hyperion armory gives all Missile Turrets a second attack that does area damage. Worth its weight in gold for anti air defense, as it really rips apart large squads of air attackers later in the campaign.
