“Stargate Universe” Season 2 Episode 5 “Cloverdale” uses the device of a hallucination being experienced by Scott to flesh out an episode and to also do a little shuffling of the characters to provide whatever insights such a thing can bring.
In the dream universe, Scott and Greer are returning to Scott’s Capraesque hometown of Cloverdale, which has a main street lined with shops and eateries and not a Walmart in sight. Young is Scott’s father. Chloe is Scott’s bride to be. Eli is Chloe’s brother. Various other Destiny crewmembers have minor roles, including Rush as the local justice of the peace.
That was one miss in the episode. Rush would have made a great small town parson.
The dream state story is mainly concerned with the events leading up to the Scott/Chloe wedding, with Scott wondering whether he is doing the right thing when he is not fainting for unexplained reasons.
In the meantime, in the “real world,” Scott has been infected by parasites given to him from some vines that move about looking for hosts. There is some disgusting blue gunk on his arm and he seems to be changing internally. Nothing that TJ or anyone else tries seems to be working. Meanwhile, the vines are chasing our intrepid heroes toward the stargate.
While Greer organizes a last stand around the stargate with flame throwers, TJ and Rush try to find something that will help Scott.
It is Chloe who finds the solution. Because the aliens have “altered her” in some ways, her blood has given her an immunity to the alien parasites. Rush had told everyone that she had been “cured,” but lied. Obviously some kind of relapse, Rush explains.
In any event, a transfusion is arranged between Chloe and Scott. Everyone else but Greer is sent back through the stargate. Greer fights off the vines up until the last moment, then helps Chloe and Scott back through the stargate.
Now the bad news. Greer gets to be decontaminated, a given. Chloe and Scott, because both of them now carry the effects of the alien meddling, will now go into quarantine until Young decides what to do with them.
That is not so bad. They will at least be together.
One wonders if Young, the ever suspicious, is wondering how honest Rush has been with him concerning the alien tinkering with Chloe’s physiology. It is not as if the good Dr. Rush has given confidence in his honesty.
Until next time.
