In “Stargate Universe” Season 2 Episode 7 “The Greater Good,” Colonel Young is not only having trouble sleeping, but also getting out of bed in the morning, thus making him late for important meetings. Not done for a leader.
Destiny pops out of FTL to find itself near an alien space ship, apparently derelict and abandoned. Rush, who slips in from his hidden control room, selects himself to go on board as the most skilled expert on alien technology. Young selects himself to go along to keep an eye on Rush.
Camille informs Ginn that the folks on Earth would like to debrief her on whatever she knows about the impending attack on Earth planned by the Lucian Alliance. She is agreeable, though at least one of her fellow Lucians is none too pleased by her cooperation. Camille also notices that Eli has been visiting Ginn for some intimate time in her quarters. This gives her a rare, wry smile. Even Chloe is happy for Eli, mainly because there will be less puppy dog gazing upon her tender, delicate form.
As Young and Rush explore the alien ship, which turns out to have belonged to the nasty aliens with whom the Destiny crew has tangled several times, Rush decides that he needs Amanda Perry’s help. This turns out to fit very nicely with the plans for Ginn to go to Earth via the stones. So Amanda vamps into Ginn’s vigorous body while Ginn, presumably, vamps into Amanda’s somewhat disabled one.
Rush lets Amanda know about his little secret concerning the secret control room and the fact that he has a measure of control of Destiny’s systems. Unfortunately for him, his sins are found out and Young-well-reacts badly.
After giving Rush a thorough beating, although one in which Rush is able to give a few blows in response, there is some discussion about who needs to really lead the Destiny crew. Perhaps neither Rush nor Young.
The final reckoning has to wait, however, as Young and Rush have to leave the alien ship, which has started to rotate, by leaping in space suits from it to the Destiny. It is a hazardous maneuver, but with Eli’s help, something they can manage. Indeed, Rush actually saves Young by grabbing him before he careens out into space forever. They may hate one another, but they both know that the Destiny needs both.
