As summer begins to fade many of us begin to get excited to start fall. The start of fall always brings about many of the same feelings as spring does. A sense of change is in the air and many people begin to want to change what is around them to meet it. They begin to look at their homes and yards in a different way and look for ways to match the feeling of cooler weather and the move towards being inside for the winter.
Start Fall for the Weather
Often the change of season, whether the start of fall or spring, has most sick of the previous season’s weather and yearning for a cool down or a warm up. The start of fall offers nights around the fire pit, open windows, a reduction in bugs, and the excitement of watching nature’s colors change. Outdoor activities change, swimming pools get shut down and footballs get brought out and the amount of times we mow in a month begins to drastically reduce. Many who have spent the summer inside under their air conditioners and fans find that they want to get outside and work on their homes and yards in the cooler weather.
Clean for the Start of Fall
Just like spring brings on spring cleaning, it is good to start fall with a fresh and clean house. I try to start fall with the same cleaning and upkeep I do in spring such as windows or fixing stuff under the house, which is always best done in the cool of fall over the stifling heat of summer. Use the start of fall to clean up your yard as well. Gather limbs that have fallen, transplant plants, and prepare the home for winter by making sure hoses are put up and pipes are wrapped to keep them from freezing.
Start Fall by Redecorating
The start of fall urges many of us to change the décor in our homes. Common redecorations for the start of fall involve changing the bedding by taking off the summer bedspreads or adding quilts for warmth. Other ideas for redecorating for fall are replacing thin throws with warmer afghans, changing table linens and centerpieces, or putting up fall décor, such as pine wreaths or pumpkins.
Start your fall off right by making changes in and around your home. These changes can help you enjoy fall and will give you a start on having a both a better winter and a better spring.
