Steam punk is an annual event produced by Brooklyn Indie Market, a unique group of designers and artists who set up shop every Saturday and Sunday in Carroll Gardens. In addition to the market, they occasionally organize and produce events, like Steampunk.
“Travel to a reinvisioned Victorian age featuring steam powered fashion, brass and copper clockwork, ray guns, jet packs, bustles and inventions that go far beyond 1800s technology” says the 2010 Steampunk flyer. It is basically science fiction as envisioned in the Victorian Era, but with a bit of 1950’s sci-fi thrown in for good measure.
The party starts at 11am and is scheduled through to 8pm, with a $5 entry fee. The actual fashion show starts at 4pm, with market vendors doing their market thing starting at 11 along with Tor Books and Tor.com who will have a “steampunk literary corner” from 11-4 as well. The literary corner will feature a number of readings by authors and others (click here for the reader lineup)
To match the alternate-universe Victorian Era, a professional photographer will be onsite to create vintage photographs with a vintage process, preseting the opportunity to take home unique keep sakes from a sure-to-be memorable day for a mere $20.
So mark your calanders for Oct 24th, 11am: Steampunk 2010, at DUMBO lofts, 155 Water st.
