I go through phases where I won’t polish my nails at all, and then other times, I have to have them perfectly colored with the latest trend in hues.
I had been looking for a color that was sort of out of the ordinary, but still very fashionable at the same time. Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish Pro in color “Steel Grey” seemed to fit the bill as I had heard a lot of this color being really close to an OPI brand nail polish that is really popular.
I really didn’t want to pay the higher price tag of the OPI polishes, and even though I had never tried any Rimmel polishes, I thought this would give me a good excuse to do so.
I had been eyeing this color for a while, but since it was slightly more expensive that the really cheap drugstore brands, I kept putting it off.
All nail polishes end up chipping on my fingernails, so I never want to pay more than a buck or 2 for any polish.
Rimmel London polishes can be found at most any drugstore, Target, Wal-Mart, and Ulta. I decided to buy mine at Wal-Mart and it was around $4 a bottle.
There were actually several colors in this line that I would have liked to have bought, but since I am always skeptical of new items, I only bought the color that I was going to buy, Steel Grey.
The bottle itself is very nice. It does look professional and is really heavy and square. The bottle is of course, clear glass with the brand name on the front. The label says that this is supposed to last for 10 days, but of course, I wasn’t betting on it.
The top unscrews and has a cute little silver embellished crown on it. This is a really nice little touch.
The brush is the really amazing feature and is something unique to most drugstore brand polishes. The brush is actually flat. This makes for easy application as well for a more even distribution of polish.
The polish is a little thick, but I actually like it at this consistency.
There are no bubbles when applying and no streaking during application. You will definitely need to do more than 1 coat, as 1 coat is pretty sheer.
The color itself is beautiful. Upon first glance, this color does look grey, but it actually has some purple undertones.
After 2 or 3 coats, this color is matte with just the high gloss finish and no sparkles, glitter, or pearl effect like other polishes have.
This color is great for fall and winter, but it is pretty neutral, so I think you might be able to get away with it during other times of the year. Since most people want brighter colors in the spring and summer, it probably won’t be the one you will want during those times.
I think this color looks really nice on my fair skin tone. I honestly do not know how this would look on tan or deep skin since this is a cooler toned shade.
The formula is very creamy and smooth and looks this way after drying as well. The shade was slightly darker after it dried, but nothing that would change my thinking of the color of product. Drying time was actually pretty short also.
I did not use a base coat or a top coat as I wanted to see how well this would wear on its own.
After 4 days, this polish is still holding up well. Even after cleaning, washing 3 vehicles and typing, I only have minimal chipping at the very tips. I would not say that this would last more than a week on its own, but might last 5-6 days with little wear. I would say that if you do a small touchup during its wear, that you might be able to extend it for a week, depending on how much you use your fingers for work, etc. I cannot say how well this would work with a top or base coat, however.
I am really amazed at this product, and plan on getting a few more shades soon. With so many colors to choose from, from bold to neutral, there is definitely a shade appropriate for you and any situation or work environment.
Overall, this was definitely worth the $4 paid for it.
