The Steelers schedule 2010 has been publicized for the wrong reasons. But now, the Steelers schedule 2010 has a clearer divide, between the Steelers schedule with Ben Roethlisberger and without him. When Roethlisberger got his six game suspension, Pittsburgh’s slate suspiciously had a lot of big, prime time showdowns after their sixth week. But Roethlisberger will actually be back after four games, and will have time to adjust before the lineup gets tougher. However, the Steelers schedule 2010 is still uncertain, even if Roethlisberger sticks around.
The first four weeks in Pittsburgh are about survival, as the Steelers try to maintain water without Roethlisberger. It starts today against Atlanta, as Dennis Dixon tries to hold off Matt Ryan and the Falcons. After that, Dixon will face Tennessee, Tampa Bay and Baltimore before the bye week.
After the bye, the Steelers schedule 2010 will truly begin, when Roethlisberger returns against the Browns on October 17. But after they face the Dolphins the next week, the opposition will get tough for a long stretch.
The Steelers schedule 2010 takes them to New Orleans for Halloween night, then to Cincinnati on Monday night, before they host New England on Sunday night. They appear to get a break afterwards against the Raiders and Bills, but then they must visit Baltimore, and host the Bengals and Jets.
All of these big showdowns were seemingly timed with Roethlisberger’s initial projected return. But either way, the Steelers schedule 2010 is doing them no favors, no matter who they have with them. Even with Roethlisberger back, success is not guaranteed.
Roethlisberger had one of his best statistical years last season, yet the defending champion Steelers missed the playoffs. Pittsburgh could not hold up in the second half, as the Bengals and Ravens overtook them in the AFC North. But when the Steelers missed the playoffs the year after winning the 2005 Super Bowl, they won the division the next season.
Repeating that feat will be hard, given the Steelers schedule 2010, and the challenges from the Bengals and Ravens. At this point, however, Roethlisberger badly needs a big season, and some kind of positive headlines after this offseason. If he brings Pittsburgh back as a Super Bowl contender, it will finally help stop the bleeding.
But before Roethlisberger can answer his questions, Pittsburgh needs to answer theirs, and hold up until he comes back. Although the Steelers schedule 2010 doesn’t look as daunting in the beginning as it does later on, things can go either way without their embattled QB.
Pittsburgh’s first big test comes at home against Atlanta, at 1 pm est on FOX.
