From the way this article reads, the current GOP leaders who may be secretly measuring the drapes may be doing so for someone else and not themselves. There is an article talking about the GOP setting their agenda and if this article is correct, that agenda may have to be changed. It would a sad thing if all of the obstructions and filerbusting ends up being for useless when the Tea Party totally consumes the now Republican Party.
“Mark Meckler, a co-founder and national coordinator of the Tea Party Patriots, suggested that Representative John Boehner and Senator Mitch McConnell might be replaced because they have presided over high spending and an expansion of government.” “Speaking following a gathering in Mesquite, Nevada, Mr. Meckler said: “Incumbency is a dangerous thing and incumbents are not necessarily the best people to run the country.” “We’d like to see a robust and open debate about who should lead a Republican Congress rather than a pre-made deal in back rooms with cigar smoke and glasses of Scotch.” “Almost every decision he’s made has been wrong,” he said. “He’s supported the wrong candidates, all folks who have been running against the Tea Party.” “Tea partiers across the nation have a big problem with Mitch McConnell.” “He said there was “some taint” attached to Mr. Boehner because of his support for the Wall Street bailout bill and other big spending measures under President George W. Bush but “on the flip side he’s done some great things reaching out to the Tea Party” and was “very respectful of the movement”. “Mr. Boehner has reportedly donated $320,000 from his campaign war chest to 39 candidates endorsed by the Tea Party.” “Many of those at the Mesquite event wore t-shirts declaring their support for Sharron Angle, the Tea Party candidate, running in a knife-edge contest to unseat Senator Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader.” (Harnden, Toby, 10/28/2010, The Telegraph, Tea Party co-founder calls for Republican leadership change, Retrieved from www.telegraph.co.uk).
According to this report, Mr. Boehner may have bought himself a safe seat for now but Michele Bachman may be gaining on him from behind. One has to also wonder what this would mean for other prominent GOP leaders like Michael Steele and Karl Rove. One thing is for sure, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Sean Hannity and Fox News will have to re-assess their positions because once that boulder begins to roll down hill, no one will be safe.
