Separate Forms Needed for Each Relative
If you will be petitioning more than one relative to move to the United States, you will need to submit separate I-130 forms for each relative. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will then process Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, as a visa number becomes available for your relative(s). This is just the first step. Relatives must wait for a visa number to become available before they make any travel plans, apply for an immigrant visa or adjust their status.
Filing Fee for Form I-130
The current filing fee for immigration Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, is $355. However, if you will be filing on or after 23 November 2010, when the new fee schedule goes into effect, the new adjusted fee will be $420. Make sure you enclose the correct payment. If you fail to enclose the correct payment, your application form will be rejected and you will be asked to resubmit it, which will delay your case.
Where to File Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative
According to USCIS, all petitioners who reside in the United States or Canada and who are filing a stand-alone Form I-130 must submit their petition to the Chicago Lockbox facility. Once petitions are filed at the Chicago Lockbox, they will be forwarded to the appropriate USCIS Service Centre. The location will depend on the petitioner’s residence.
