Super Bowl XLV Crafts: Make the Football
Cut out a football shape using one piece of card stock and fold it in half. Draw half of a circle, starting at the folded edge. You can even trace a mug or large glass for the circle shape. Next draw a curved line on top and on the bottom, about three inches long, to form the shape of an eye. When you cut it out, and open it up you have a football shape.
You can sketch an image first with pencil and cut out the shape. Don’t worry about making lines on the paper, this first football will be a tracing template for the invitations. Trace the template shape onto paper and cut out your football shapes until you have enough for your Super Bowl XLV invitations.
Use a hole punch to create two holes near the top of the football, on opposite edges for the one horizontal lace. Make Six to eight holes for the smaller laces. Poke a pencil through the paper
Texture the Paper
The best way to make a football-like texture on paper is to create tiny dots with glue. Ask someone to help you because this can be time consuming. Dab dots of glue everywhere on the template, leaving the dots to dry as tiny raised circles. Do not smudge or smear the dots of glue.
Paint the Paper
Brush the brown paint onto the football invitations over the dried glue dots. If the brown is too dark, add a touch of red paint. Let the paint dry on all of the Super Bowl XLV invitations.
Lace It Up
Add three or four vertical laces to complete the football lacing. Secure the laces by tying them in the back. They won’t be seen once you add the party invitation onto the back.
