On Wednesday night the 21st season of CBS’ Survivor premiered on CBS. The location? Nicaragua. But this time the show started off with an interesting twist as the tribes were divided based on age. So what happened on the Survivor: Nicaragua premiere? And who was the first person sent home?
But first, before anyone was introduced, several of the contestants notice a familiar face among them- former NFL coach Jimmy Johnson. So what was a Super bowl winning coach doing on Survivor? Some are star struck and intrigued, while others think Johnson needs to go home right away.
Next up, it ‘s time to find the “Medallion of Power” hidden in the lagoon. While the medallion’s secret power is not yet revealed, whoever finds it first will claim it for their tribe. It is found by a 27 year old Brenda.
Next, host Jeff Probst reveals how the tribes will be divided: people over 40 in one group, people age 30 and under in the other group. Hey, what happened to the 31 to 39 demographic? The “older” tribe is called Espada, the younger tribe is La Flora (the complete list of tribe members is below).
Jimmy Johnson quips, “I’m young at heart!” then adds that he had been looking forward to the young people carrying him.
Brenda must decide if she wants to keep the mysterious Medallion of Power for her tribe or trade it for fire and fishing supplies. The youngin’s want instant gratification, so Brenda trades it and the “older” tribe gets the medallion.
While some members of the older tribe are stoked to have Jimmy Johnson on their team, the younger tribe already have a nickname for hunky Jud. Shannon thinks Jud is a male dumb blonde and dubs him Fabio. Meanwhile Kelly B. shows her tribe that she has an amputated leg, a disability that may hurt her in more ways than one; a few are afraid she’ll get sympathy votes if she stays around too long.
Later, Alina and Kelly B. find clues to the hidden Immunity Idol, while Jimmy Johnson has a huddle with his tribe to tell them he knows no jury will give him a million dollars, but that he’s there to help one of them win a million.
First Immunity Challenge
With the older tribe in possession of the Medallion of Power, they can use it as a head start in the first immunity challenge or save it for later. They decide to save it. The task is to pour water down a barrel until it is filled. Once the barrel is filled, puzzle pieces will drip. First tribe to complete their puzzle wins.
The Younger tribe(La Flora) wins.
At tribal council, the Espada tribe votes out 48 year old Wendy. So Wendy is out and they get fire. Fire and a Medallion of Power. Not a bad first week!
