Just days prior to appearing before a war crimes trial on August 5, the IRS filed a tax lien against Campbell on July 28 in New York, according to the Detroit Times. A spokeswoman for Campbell advised the model’s accountant had no knowledge of the lien or any delinquent taxes.
Campbell has been plagued with run-ins with the law involving a series of assaults. They span the years of ’00, ’04, ’05, ’06, ’07, ’08 and ’10.
Testimony by Campbell at the U.N. Special Court at the Hague in the Netherlands involved “blood diamonds” she received after sitting next to Liberia’s ex-president Charles Taylor at a dinner in 1997. The dinner was hosted by South African president Nelson Mandela. Campbell testified two men showed up at her hotel room later that evening and presented her with six rough diamonds wrapped in paper. She further stated she gave the stones to a representative from the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.
After first denying the diamonds were received from Campbell, the charity has now stated the diamonds were in fact received, and a trustee of the charity has recently resigned. The charity is reported to still be in possession of the uncut stones.
