For as long as I can remember, we have had those who literally could not stand the person in the Office of the President of the United States but none have gone so far as to jeopardize National Security to see him fail. The healthcare debate was one thing but to ignore this Star treaty or use it to score ideological points is nothing short of self-preservation. Anything to get face-time on the cameras and look like you actually stands for something.
“An agreement between the United States and Russia to slash their nuclear arsenals was in danger of collapse Tuesday after an influential Republican senator said it should not be voted on this year.” “With a terse statement, Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., dealt a major setback to President Barack Obama’s efforts to improve ties with Russia and to his broader strategy for reducing nuclear arms worldwide.” “Without the support of Kyl, the leading Republican voice on the treaty, Democrats have little hope of securing at least eight Republican votes, the minimum they would need for ratification in the Senate.” “The treaty would reduce U.S. and Russian limits on strategic warheads to 1,550 for each country from the current ceiling of 2,200.” “It also would set up new procedures to allow both countries to inspect each other’s arsenals to verify compliance.” “Kyl has argued that it doesn’t make sense to reduce the U.S. warheads until more is done to maintain and modernize the remaining arsenal.” “Last week the administration sought to satisfy Kyl’s conditions for supporting the treaty with a proposal to significantly boost funding for the nation’s nuclear weapons complex.” “But Kyl appeared to surprise the administration with a statement against quick passage that cited “unresolved issues related to START and modernization.” (Butler, Desmond, 11/16/2010, GOP senator deals setback to nuclear treaty, Retrieved from firstname.lastname@example.org ).
Where does all of this hatred come from, some many say that it is because our first African-American will accomplish more in four years than the past presidents have in all of the years previous. They are concerned that if he accomplishes all that he was voted in to do, it will not leave them much to run on and take back all four parts of the government again. Some say that the hatred come from the fact that he is a democrat and nothing else, that being a Liberal means that any policy that he sets forth or supports is bad for this economy and the nation. As time progresses, it has become clearer and clearer that this is a false assumption but because there are no accountability to those who worship this view, the proof is mute.
It is extremely laughable to think that there is not more to this than meets the eye. It is unfortunate that our men and women of the military is fighting for a country which will destroy itself from within if this severe distaste for another continues to plague Washington where only those who lie better are elected. America used to stand on the merits of those putting their country first and themselves second instead of visa-versa. As a former U.S. Marine, I am highly disappointed in the manner Senators and Representatives conduct themselves when it comes to nation first and fame last. I would think that there would be others out there who feel the same.
