I don’t usually write articles about politics, I prefer to write about less divisive things such as technology, music, the arts, and kung fu: things that I personally enjoy. However, with all the recent media coverage on the so-called Tea Party movement and with the upcoming elections I feel I must share my own thoughts on this political phenomena.
Now, I may not have the nose of a beagle like Daniel Boone, but I can smell bull crap a mile away. For instance, back in 2002 when the Bush administration was gearing up for the invasion of Iraq, you could not turn on the television or read the newspaper without hearing about “weapons of mass destruction.” It was the coin phrase of the day. I smelled bull crap back then and it turns out my nose was correct… it was all hype manufactured by the Bush administration to create fear and to build up a case for war but and as it turned out the so-called “weapons of mass destruction” did not exist.
Fast forward to February of 2009 when the first “official” Tea Party protests were scheduled for April 15, 2009 and were being heavily promoted by FOX News. I smelled bull crap again since these protests took place a mere three months after Obama had been sworn into office as President of the United States. Three months of Obama and Americans were already fed up with his policies and demonstrating in the streets??? Give me a break…
To me the so-called “Tea Party protests” of April 15, 2009 reeked of right wing shenanigans. I mean, comon… if the Tea Party really was a grass roots movement of average ordinary U.S. citizens who were angry about the state of the nation, why were they not protesting during the eight years when George W. Bush was running the country into the ground? It was obvious to me that in fact the whole Tea Party movement was manufactured by right wing Republicans and neo-cons and promoted by FOX News (which exists solely to promote the right wing agenda, disguised as a news channel), with the goal being to do anything and everything possible to derail Obama’s presidency, stonewall his policies, and to create more division, fear and anger in America, with the ultimate goal of retaking the White House in 2012. I mean, seriously… look what the Republicans did during Bill Clinton’s eight years, they did everything they could to derail him including trying to impeach him.
True, many average American citizens have joined the Tea Party movement over the last year, but why? And who are these people? Many seem to be bitter about Obama being elected. Others are angry about the state of the economy, but to be fair the economy has been a mess since the Bush administration, so where were they then? Were they not angry when Bush was president? Apparently not, everything was fine when Bush was in charge. And what does the Tea Party even stand for? So far, all I’ve heard is “Less government! Lower taxes! We need to take the country back!” Take the country back from who? From Americans??? These seem to be the talking points of the Tea Party movement, talking points that you hear constantly on FOX News and again parroted by the Tea Party members. You never hear any real solutions from the Tea Party, only the angry rhetoric. The Tea Party seems to be a fringe right wing element that makes a lot of noise and they are fueled by anger. Again, I ask… where were they during the eight years of George W. Bush? I think it’s safe to say that if they were protesting at all they were attending the “pro war” protests, which were also manufactured, promoted and manipulated by FOX News and the right wing political groups.
It should be an interesting elections scenario in 2010. The GOP seems to be moving even more to the right and moderate Republicans are being thrown by the wayside to make room for the utlra-conservative Tea Party candidates. My own prediction is that the Tea Party movement will ultimately fail to bring ultra-right wing conservatism to the United States because they are in reality a small fringe movement that most American citizens cannot identify with because most average Americans are in fact moderates and want a moderate government.
Stay tuned, America! We do indeed live in interesting times…
